【明理讲堂2023年第26期】香港浸会大学Christy M. K. Cheung教授应邀作学术报告

应管理与经济学院的邀请,香港浸会大学的Christy M. K. Cheung教授于2023年4月27日上午10点在线上做了题为《Understanding the Current State of Knowledge andFuture Directions of Doxing Research: A SocialCognitive Theory Perspective》的学术报告。报告会由厉洋军老师主持,学院众多师生参加了本次报告会。

报告开始,Christy教授指出目前的互联网和社交媒体充斥着网络暴力和网络骚扰的行为,这些行为对人们的身体和精神健康都会产生不良影响,甚至会导致自杀。同时,这些行为也会对人们如何使用社交平台产生影响。人肉搜索(Doxing)作为网络暴力的一种特殊形式,指的是第三方故意在公共平台公开个人信息以达到侮辱、威胁和惩罚的目的。施暴者通过人肉搜索公开了受害者的个人信息且这些信息还会被用来进行后续的骚扰和攻击。

为了减少这种行为的产生,一些地方政府制定了反对人肉搜索的法律法规。然而,社交平台在遵守相关法规的同时也可能对群众的言论自由产生影响。现有大部分研究主要从法律角度进行研究,关注的主要是外部环境是如何影响人肉搜索行为,缺少从个体、行为以及社交平台的角度对人肉搜索行为进行研究。因此,Christy提出未来的研究应该重点关注人们是如何通过社交平台来参与或应对人肉搜索行为,以此来帮助社交平台更好的在法规和言论自由间找到平衡。此外,Christy以2019年香港反修例事件中的人肉搜索行为作为案例进行了进一步的探究,通过对相关的社交媒体数据以及对香港警察的访谈数据进行分析,揭示了社会运动背景下施暴者进行人肉搜索的动机和方式,以及人肉搜索对受害者的影响。研究结果表明,尽管施暴者是以寻求社会公平的名义开展人肉搜索行为,但这种行为本身却延续了不公平性。最后,由于人肉搜索的不良影响以及相关研究的匮乏,未来的研究可以更多地关注受害者的应对机制以及平台和法律法规该如何控制人肉搜索行为。

报告结束后,与会师生与Christy教授展开了积极的讨论,受到了很多启发。报告反响热烈,得到了师生们的一致好评。

报告人简介:

Christy M.K Cheung is a Professor of Management Information Systems and theDirector of the Research Office at Hong KongBaptist University.Sheis theawardee of a prestigious fellowship schemeRGC Senior Research Fellow(研局高级研究学者)andobtains HK$7.8million(USD1million)to support her research work on cybermobbing behaviors on social media platforms. Her researchinterests include IT and User Behaviors, Responsible Use of IT, and IT and Societal implications. She has published over 200 refereed articles in internationajournals and conference proceedings, including European Journal of InformationSystems,Information Systems Journal,Information Systems Research, Journal of Information Technology, Journal of Management Information Systems, Journal of the Association for Information Systems, Journal of the Association for Information Science and Technology, MIS Quarterly and among others. Her workshave been cited around 30000 times and over 9,000 times per Google Scholarand Web of Sciencerespectively, with an h-index of 73 and an i-10 index of 137. She has been recognized to be among the World's Top 2 percent scholars, witha recent ranking of 29th out of 18K scientists in the field of information systems(and ranked 1st among female scientists in the field of information systems). Sherecently ranked 1st among all MIS scholars in Hong Kong on the AIS RankingList. Her academic leadership roles include being the Editor-in-Chief of Internet Research (since 2016). She successfully brought the journal from AJG Level 2 toLevel 3 in 2021. She has also served in many different Senior Editor and Associate Editor roles for several major IS journals, including Decision Support Systems, Information & Management, Information Systems Journal, Information Systems Research,Journal of Association lnformation Systems, and others.
