Associate Professor Yuli Zhang Shared the Story of Striving : to Learn, to Explore and to Innovate

     In administrative building,room 230,November 21st,2018,2:00 p.m.the activity ‘Inculcation of SME( the first phase )·youthful teachers telling stories of striving’ was held successfully. The youthful teacher, associate professor Yuli Zhang and about 20 undergraduates of SME participated in this activity. As the main speaker of this activity,Yuli Zhang talked about his individual experience,college life and academic researches with the topic of ‘To learn, to explore and to innovate——communicate with students of SME’.

 

Firstly,Yuli Zhang asked everyone to fill out a questionnaire about study life. According to the statistics of questionnaires, he analyzed their study lives and shared his feelings and harvest. He quoted a set of comics and speeches of Yun Ma,Huateng Ma and Qiangdong Liu to explain the relationship among hobby, strong point and ability. He also showed the importance of ‘queuing on purpose so that you can reach the destination’.

Secondly, using examples of Watson playing Jeopardy and eHarmony, with analysis of management science data, Yuli Zhang demonstrated how significant modern professionalization research is to mining and analyzing data. Then he cited Poisson Distribution to explain that abstract theorem results from realistic statistics.He believes that applying theories to practices is the key point to help people switch from learning to exploring.

Finally, to tell us that high intelligence isn’t a must in academic study, Yuli Zhang shared stories of professor Jingsheng Song, whose demand leads him to academy and Zbigniew Michalewicz, member of ACS(Australian Computer Society), who does academic study because of interest. Instead,a solid foundation and strong interest are keys to creating value.
