Dr. Shan-Dong Tu gave talks at CEEP

  At 10:00 on June 21, 2018, Shan-Dong Tu, Professor of East China University of Science and Technology, was invited to visit CEEP and gave a talk entitled “What Enables the Application of Energy ?”. The report was hosted by Director Yi-Ming Wei, many teachers and students attended the report.

  

  Shan-Dong Tu received a Ph.D. in Engineering from Nanjing Institute of Chemical Technology in 1988, a Distinguished Professor of the Yangtze River Scholar Award Program of the Ministry of Education (2001) and a National Outstanding Young Scientists Fund (2002). He is currently a professor and chairman of the Association for Science and Technology at East China University of Science and Technology. He is also the Emeritus Professor at the University of Nottingham, Chairperson of the Asian Pressure Region of the International Pressure Vessels Society, Honorary Chairman of the Material Society of the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society, Honorary Chairman of the Pressure Vessels Society; Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Applied Energy, Chemical Progress, etc., Int J Pressure Vessels & Piping, J Journal of Materials Science & Technology, Fatigue and Fracture of Engineering Materials and Structures, Pressure Vessels, Journal of Applied Basic and Engineering Science, etc. The main research interests include: energy materials and equipment technology, structural integrity theory. He has made important contributions to the creation of high-temperature chemical and energy equipment and prevention of industrial failure. He has published more than 300 papers and was cited more than 6,000 times and won the first prize of national scientific and technological progress, the second prize of national scientific and technological progress and the second prize of national invention, and won the second China Youth Science and Technology Award and ASME Best Paper Award, etc.

  In today's report, Prof. Shan-Dong Tu firstly reviewed the application of energy and the development of the steam engine that triggered the industrial revolution, and discussed the interaction between technology and science, society, and politics. Secondly, the basic elements for the application of energy systems are listed. Finally, a case study on the commercialization of the ECUST coal gasification technology was introduced, and strategies that may speed up energy technology transfer was recommended.
