【Mingli Lecture 2023, Issue 32】Associate Professor Zhou Yu of School of Economics and Business Administration of Chongqing University was in

At the invitation of the School of Management and Economics, Zhou Yu, associate professor of the School of Economics and Business Administration of Chongqing University, gave an academic report entitled "Inventory Decision and Commitment Strategies under Supply Interruption Risk" at 10 a.m. on May 11, 2023 in Conference Room 216 of the main building. The lecture was presided over by Professor Wang Jiancai, and several teachers and students from the college attended the lecture.

At the beginning of the report, Professor Zhou pointed out that due to unexpected events such as natural disasters, trade frictions, and military conflicts, manufacturers' production capacity may be disrupted. Under the COVID-19 epidemic, conventional coping strategies such as multi-source procurement often have limited effect, while strategic inventory is rarely studied in the risk of supply chain disruption. Based on this, it is worth investigating in depth how upstream and downstream enterprises in the supply chain determine their respective strategic inventory and the interaction between the two.

A two cycle supply chain model was constructed to investigate the impact of supply interruption risk in the second cycle on supply chain inventory decisions and manufacturer commitment strategies. Three commitment strategies were considered: no commitment, price commitment, and inventory commitment. Discovering the risk of supply interruption brings about very different supply chain inventory decisions. Manufacturers always prefer inventory commitment, but the prerequisite for successful implementation of inventory commitment strategies is supply chain transparency; If inventory commitments are not feasible, manufacturers can also use price commitments to increase expected profits under certain conditions. Finally, Professor Zhou conducted an in-depth analysis of the management implications of the research results based on corporate practice.

After the report, the attending teachers and students had a positive discussion with Professor Zhou, which received a lot of inspiration. The report received a warm response and received unanimous praise from teachers and students.
