【Mingli Lecture 2023, Issue 33】 Associate Professor Xiong Jie from Anger Higher Business School in France was invited to give an acade

At the invitation of the School of Management and Economics, a tenured associate professor at Anger High School of Business in France gave an academic report titled "Cross disciplinary Research on the Theme of Catching up with the Future" at Conference Room 317 in the main building on May 8, 2023. The report was hosted by Professor Yin Ximing, and more than 30 teachers and students, including Vice Dean Ye Xuanting and Professor Wen Xinmin from the Department of Technology, Economics and Strategic Management, participated in this presentation through a combination of online and offline methods.

At the beginning of the report, Professor Xiong Jie pointed out that the importance of interdisciplinary or Transdisciplinarity has been highlighted in recent years. However, no mature paradigm for reference has yet been found, no matter whether it is from natural disciplines to social disciplines or from social disciplines to natural disciplines. The intersection of management studies with other disciplines has its unique characteristics and opportunities. Currently, the two important paradigms in management research - induction or deduction - have a certain scientific foundation in their intersection with other disciplines. At the same time, as the research process between different disciplines roughly follows the process of "discovering problems, proposing problems, and solving problems", interdisciplinary research can be carried out in one or more of these three stages in a timely manner. Constrained by the cognitive bias or disciplinary basis difference of researchers, and the lack of scientific training in Transdisciplinarity, opportunities and challenges coexist in Transdisciplinarity.

Therefore, Professor Xiong Jie further shares his attempt to conduct interdisciplinary research after analyzing his own discipline based on management. Professor Xiong Jie uses catching up and industrial upgrading as examples to explain and explore the research background, development context, and remaining issues. Regarding the development context, Professor Xiong analyzed the characteristics, research design, research process, and presentation of research results of catching up research; And based on this, expand and share potential opportunities for interdisciplinary scientific research.

After sorting out the remaining issues, Professor Xiong Jie compared his years of practical work and research experience to explore the possibility of small domain intersection and large domain intersection. Finally, he shared the current ongoing research projects and unpublished research achievements, including traditional management research topics and interdisciplinary research trends.

After the report, the attending teachers and students had a positive discussion with Professor Xiong through a combination of online and offline methods, which received a lot of inspiration. The report received a warm response and received unanimous praise from teachers and students.
