【Mingli Lecture 2021, Issue 55】Professor Li Xin of City University of Hong Kong was invited to give a presentation

On November 23, we were honored to invite Professor Li Xin from City University of Hong Kong Business School to present an academic report entitled "The negative Impact of online mutual aid Community on patients with depression". Yan Zhijun, professor of School of Management and Economics of Beijing Institute of Technology, introduced Li Xin and presided over the report.

Teacher Li Xin introduced a new view: emotional support in depression online communities has a negative impact on patients with depression. Teacher Li first introduced the basic situation of depression online community, where people with depression can provide emotional support to others through Posting. Drawing on the theory of emotional contagion, Li introduced his hypothesis that although emotional support may benefit the target patient seeking support, it may have a negative impact on the mood of other patients. Next, Li introduced the deep learning model used in the study, which can extract emotional support categories from texts. Based on the analysis results of the deep model, Mr. Li used empirical research to support his hypothesis and test the robustness of the results from several aspects.


Teacher Li Xin's report fully aroused the interest and enthusiasm of the teachers and students. After the report, the teachers and students actively communicated with Teacher Li. The report was warmly received and praised by the teachers and students.

Introduction to Teacher Li Xin


Li Xin is a professor at the Department of Information Systems, City University of Hong Kong. He received his Ph.D. in Management Information Systems from the University of Arizona and his B.S. and M.S. degrees from the Department of Automation, Tsinghua University. Research interests include digital economy, healthcare, data science/machine learning, social networks, and applied econometrics. His work has been published in MISQ, ISR, JMIS, INFORMS JOC, DSS,I&M, JASIST, IEEE/ACM Transactions, Nature Nanotechnology journals. His work has been cited by Google more than 3,000 times, with an H-index of 29. He is a Senior member of IEEE and ACM, and a member of INFORMS and AIS.
