The 26th Special Youth Academic Salon (online) of Beijing Institute of Technology was successfully held

The 26th Teli Youth Academic Salon of Beijing Institute of Technology -- Enterprise Operation management Innovation under digital Economy (online conference) was successfully held on the morning of May 28, 2021.This salon is hosted by Science and Technology Association of Beijing Institute of Technology, undertaken by School of Management and Economics of Beijing Institute of Technology, Intelligent Decision and Game Branch of China Institute of Superior Selection, Unification and Economic Mathematics, and organized and hosted by Professor Li Guo, dean of Department of Management Science and Logistics of School of Management and Economics.Professor Ruomeng Cui, Deputy Editor of Manufacturing & Service Operations Management, Senior Editor of Production and Operations Management, Department of Information Systems and Operations Management, Emory University, USA, was invited to the salon.Associate Editor of MIS Quarterly and Decision Support Systems, Senior Editor of Production and Operations Management, Professor LiangfeiQiu, Department of Information and Operations Management, University of Florida Warrington School of Business, AND NavalResearch Logistics Associate Editor, Senior Editor of Production and Operations Management, And Professor Bin Hu of Navin Jindal School of Management, University of Texas at Dallas delivered a special report.The salon was held in the form of Tencent conference, attracting nearly 200 teachers and students from all over the country to participate in the enthusiastic response, which was highly praised.

At the start of the meeting, Beijing institute of technology professor Alicia wang, dean of school of economics and management, China optimization program evaluation and review technique and economic mathematics research intelligent decision-making and game branch director professor deng-feng li, the national natural science fund committee management sciences Beijing institute of technology, a senior researcher at long HuoHong Hu Han professor, director of the association for science and technology office respectively for opening speech,Introduced the general situation of the salon, pointed out the important academic significance of the salon, expressed warm congratulations on the holding of the salon, and expressed heartfelt thanks to the support of the salon organizers and invited report experts.

Then came the salon academic report, which was divided into three parts, in which three outstanding scholars in operation management shared their relevant academic research.The first part is the topic report "Sooner or Later?Promising Delivery Speed in Online Retail ", moderated by Professor Jiang Zhongzhong of Northeastern University.Professor Cui Ruomeng first introduced the decision-making dilemma of online retailers' order delivery forecast information display under platform economy, namely: on the one hand, shorter estimated delivery time can increase sales volume;On the other hand, if the actual arrival time exceeds the estimated information, customer satisfaction will be reduced.Based on this, Professor Cui and Collage.com collaborated to study the causal relationship between online retailers' delivery speed commitment and consumer behavior and business efficiency.According to the study, every day that the promised delivery speed decreases, the sales and profit increase by 0.73% and 2% respectively, while the opposite decreases by 0.51% and 2.7%.However, shorter commitment times also increase product return rates and reduce customer retention.The results provide theoretical guidance for online retailer managers to make decisions on delivery commitment information.

The second part is the theme report "How Uber Shaping Public Transit System: A Counterfactual Estimator Approach" shared by Professor QiuLiangfei and hosted by Professor Li Guo.Professor QiuLiangfei studied the matching of demand and supply in the sharing economy.Starting from the operation example of Uber and based on the counterfactual estimation method, the study discusses the impact of Uber on traditional public transport and passenger benefits.The results show that Uber has a great substitution effect on traditional public transport, and the demographic characteristics of urban areas have different effects on the intensity of the substitution effect.

The third part is Prof. Hu Bin's lecture "Managing Self-Replicating Innovative Goods", chaired by Prof. Wu Xiaole of Fudan University.Inspired by 3D printing technology and innovative agricultural and pastoral products, Professor Hu bin studies the best production and marketing decisions for manufacturers of self-replicating innovative products.The continuous sequential optimal control framework is used to combine the production side self-replication model with the demand innovation diffusion model.The results describe the manufacturer's optimal production and sales strategy, and further verify the robustness of the results under the conditions of demand backlog, liquidity constraint, random innovation diffusion, start-up inventory decision and exogenous demand.

After the report, the teachers and students had a lively discussion and exchange, which inspired us deeply.In the end, Professor Yan Zhijun, Party Secretary of school of Management and Economics, summed up the salon, announced the successful opening of the salon, and once again expressed his heartfelt thanks to the invited experts.
