Brief report content.

On 22 September 2020, China made a solemn commitment at the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly to meet its carbon peak and carbon neutral targets. in December 2020, China further proposed several aggregate targets to address climate change. in July 2021, the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) held a meeting to re-emphasize the integrated planning and comprehensive deployment of carbon peak and carbon neutral work. The carbon peak and carbon neutral targets not only fully demonstrate China's determination and confidence in low carbon development, but also imply a broad and profound economic and social system change. From the perspective of China's current carbon emission characteristics, combined with the ways and paths of energy transition, a number of frontier issues in energy economics are summarised from various perspectives, including developmental, phased and balanced, which are worth further exploration in the future.
