June 19, invited by Dean Professor Wei Yiming, Director of the BIT Center for Energy and Environmental Policy Research, Professor Tad Murty, Department of Civil Engineering, University of Ottawa, visited the Center, and gave an academic report entitled "Vulnerability of coastal infrastructure to natural hazards". Associated Dean Professor Wang Zhaohua, and Deputy Director of the Center, chaired the meeting.
After the tsunami in Japan, many countries have started to re-examine its coastal infrastructure vulnerability to natural disasters. In the report, Professor Murty explained the vulnerability of coastal infrastructure to storm surges and tsunamis. He had lively discussions with audiences on early warnings of natural disasters in coastal areas, climate change vulnerability issues.
