A lecture entitled Soft Power Depicted in Chinese Culture was given as scheduled on March 10. It is imbued with enthusiasm towards age-long Chinese culture heritage represented by thoughts of ancient Chinese scholars quoted abundantly in the speech, together with rich references to parallel as well as contending views in the west, hence promotes convincingly the lecturer’s opinion of building up a rich and powerful China through mutually reinforcing and compensating soft-hard power combination.
The audience was so overwhelmed by the range and depth of knowledge on both oriental and western cultures shown in the speech that quite a part flocked to the podium at the end of lecture, applauding, asking to have their photos taken with the lecturer.
The lecturer is Dr. Lin, academician of Hong Kong Engineering Academy, China, ex-deputy president of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, 1997-2003, and counsellor to BIT, among many other academic titles.
