July 28 - August 1 ,2013,  Portland International Center for Management of Engineering and Technology (PICMET2013) was held in San Jose in the United States. Doctoral student Zhou Xiao of the Department of management Science and Engineering won Outstanding Student Paper Award, and tutor Professor Zhu Donghua was awarded Nominating Professor. PICMET2013 received a total of more than 660 international papers. Through three rounds of rigorous evaluation by experts, 285 papers were accepted, 35 papers got nomination, of which only two won an Outstanding Student Paper Award. The prize money is $ 1,000 .

The winning paper "Analyzing Research Publication Patterns to Gauge Future Innovation Pathways for Nano-Enabled Drug Delivery" mainly studied the nano- assisted drug delivery systems (NEDD) innovation paths , and proposed an effective search strategy .
