On the afternoon of May 11, 2018, the Beijing Institute of Technology, Georgia Institute of Technology and the University of Manchester Technical Innovation Joint Lab 2018 Academic Symposium were held in the main building room 317. The academic seminar was hosted by Prof. Ying Ying. Prof. Jan Youtie from the Georgia Institute of Technology, Prof. Philip Shapira from the Business School of the University of Manchester, Prof. Xuefeng Wang from the School of Management and Economics of the Beijing Institute of Technology, Prof. Yu Huang, Prof. Ying Guo, and Prof. Guo Ying as well as the entire graduate students of the Lab attended the meeting.
In the seminar, Dr. Zhu Lin made a report titled "Detecting the potential innovative rising technology stars in patent co-inventor networks using power graphs". He introduced how to identify potential new technology nova methods in the inventor cooperation network. Dr. Qiao Yali introduced the potential R&D partner identification method under the title "Identifying Potential R&D Partners: Combination of Technology Complementarity and Absorptive Capacity". Dr. Han Xiaolu described the R&D trend analysis based on patent mining: an integrated use of patent application and invalidation data. Dr. Omer Hanif, a doctoral student, gave a wonderful report titled "Hybrid Interactions Systems: Identifying the interactions between factors to analyze a scientific problem by combing latent Dirichlet allocation and bibliographic coupling". He introduced the use of LDA model and literature coupling to identify interactions between factors.
