Professor Li ZhaoJun Visits the School of Management and Economics

On the morning of November 20, 2017, Professor Li Zhaojun from the University of the West New England was invited to visit Beijing Institute of Technology School of Management and Economics and gave an academic report entitled "An Analytical Method for Understanding the Trend and Remaining Life of Haze in China." Nearly 20 teachers and students of the School participated in the symposium. The meeting was hosted by Professor Cui Limong.

Professor Li Zhaojun holds a Ph.D. from Washington University in the United States. He is currently a professor of industrial engineering and engineering management at the University of West New England. His research interests include applied probability, statistics, quality, safety engineering, operations management, fault diagnosis of complex systems and reliability modeling and stochastic management. He currently serves as associate editor of the IEEE Transactions on Reliability, a top journal in the field of reliability and co-editor of the International Performability Engineering. He is also on the board of the IISE QCRE unit and the IEEE Reliability Association.
In this report, Professor Li Zhaojun first introduced the causes of haze and its major constituent substances: PM 2.5. Few literatures have mathematically modeled and analyzed the periodic variation of PM 2.5. In response to the above questions, Professor Li Zhaojun proposed a new prediction method: By sampling the contents of PM2.5 in five representative cities in Shanghai, Beijing, Qingdao, Chengdu and Tianjin in a year, the PM 2.5 contents in the air were obtained through regression analysis. And then the periodic variation of PM 2.5 was analyzed, and finally the contents of PM 2.5 were predicted.
