On the afternoon of November 10, 2017, in Conference Room 418 of the Main Building, Luo Dan, associate professor of accounting and financial management, Henry Business School, University of Reading, UK, was invited to give an academic lecture entitled "Research Methods". Students from Accounting Department participated actively in this academic exchange activity.
Associate Professor Luo Dan's research interests mainly focus on banking, pricing of capital assets, real estate finance, energy, environmental economics, compensation incentives and corporate innovation. He published more than 10 SSCI articles in internationally renowned academic journals. This lecture introduces the rigorous and standardized research methods that academic research should follow. With her years of writing experience, Prof. Luo comprehensively and specifically explained the ideas and methods of academic writing from the topics selection, introduction, literature review, research methods and so on. During the lecture, Prof. Luo and the audience held heated discussions on the examples so that everyone had an intuitive and profound understanding of how to narrow the scope of the topics and how to identify feasible research methods. Finally, Prof. Luo raised hopes for exercising critical thinking and cultivating the habit of academic literature reading, and patiently answered the practical questions that students encountered in academic writing.
