Beijing Institute of Technology is approved as an observer organizationi of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change

From 30 November to 12 December 2023, the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) (COP 28) and the 18th Conference of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP 18) and the fifth Conference of the Parties to the Paris Agreement (CMA 5) was held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The conference deliberated and approved the Beijing Institute of Technology as an observer status.

The observer status is applied based on the CEEP-BIT. The center has long-term commitment to energy and climate change policy research. Professor Wei Yiming, Director of the Center, is the United Nations intergovernmental committee on climate change (IPCC) sixth assessment report core authors and the third working group report Coordinate Lead Author (CLA) (There are 34 CLA globally). A number of research results of the center have been positively cited by the IPCC assessment report, contributing to the scientific assessment of global climate change and providing support for improving China's ability to cope with climate change.

During the COP 28 Conference, Beijing Institute of Technology sent several teachers to actively participate in various activities as observers, and conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions on the hot topics of the conference through various online and offline ways, and actively participated in the border meeting activities of the participating countries, providing professional insights for global climate change governance.
