The undergraduate program of Information Management and Information System in Beijing Institute of Technology, formerly known as Management Information System, was founded in year 1983 and began to recruit students two years later in 1985. After the Ministry of Education initiated the countrywide adjustment for undergraduate program, it was renamed as the major of Information Management and Information Systems. It integrates the knowledge of management science, operations research and computer science, and then extracts new systems and methods on this basis. After more than 20 years of development, it has formed its own professional characteristics. Now it has involved into a comprehensive discipline with marginality and crossover features, and these professional characteristics and impactful achievements have been recognized by our peers at home and abroad. The major of Information Management and Information Systems has become one of the 6 most impactful majors in our university. In year 2009, it was awarded as a Beijing characteristic major, moreover, in 2012, was awarded as a key specialty of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in China. This undergraduate program is under the discipline of Management of Science and Engineering, which has a great development foundation at Beijing Institute of Technology. In 1996, it was approved the first-level discipline to award doctoral degree (one of the first PhD-awarding disciplines in the country). In the same year a post-doctoral research station is built for this discipline as well to further enhance our research strength. In year 2002, it was awarded as one of the key disciplines in Beijing area. Furthermore, in 2012, it was awarded as a key discipline of informatization and industrialization, by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. In year 2017, in the discipline assessment and ranking initiated by the Ministry of Education, it received excellent assessment result as an A-level discipline.

     We have a highly professional teaching team for this undergraduate program, and the structure of the team is stable and reasonable. At present, there are 35 full-time teachers for the program, including 16 professors, 17 doctoral supervisors, 14 associate professors and 5 lecturers. There are 70% of the team members are under age 45 and 85% of them have international studying and visiting experiences. Among them, one has received the "Yangtze River" Scholar Award, three of them are winners of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, one has awarded as a young Yangtze River Scholar. In teaching, one of our team members received the teaching award of the “Ten Thousand Plan”, we also have one nationally outstanding teacher for this undergraduate program. In addition, we have two national talent candidates, two winners of the China Youth Science and Technology Award, two winners of the National Excellent Youth Fund. One of our team members serves as a committee member of the Management Science and Engineering teaching committee of the Ministry of Education. We also have one National Defense 511 Talent scholar, ten New Century Excellent Talents of the Ministry of Education in the team. For the teaching and research outcome, we have received 3 “National 100 Outstanding Doctoral Thesis” nomination award, and 3 Beijing Outstanding Doctoral Thesis awards. Relying on this subject, one of the national natural science fund innovation group and one national excellent teaching team are built. The major also has one national excellent teaching team, two national quality courses, one second-level national teaching achievement, one national quality textbook, one Beijing outstanding course and seven Beijing fine textbooks. Our team has received one first prize of Science and Technology Progress by the Ministry of Education, one second prize of Beijing Science and Technology, and five third prizes of National Defense Science and Technology Progress Award.

    In the past five years, our team has undertaken more than 60 national-level scientific research projects and more than 100 national defense and provincial-level projects, with a total funding of more than 50 million Yuan. The project types cover the Innovation Fund, Key Projects, National Excellent Youth Fund, International (regional) Cooperation and Exchange Projects, research grants and youth projects of Natural Science Foundation of China (totally 58 projects); and also National 973 Programs, National Science and Technology Major Projects, National Science and Technology Support Programs and National Soft Science Research Programs (totally 6 projects). In addition, the team has undertaken 124 application research projects for the State Council, the National Energy Administration, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the National Defense Science and Technology Bureau, and the National Development and Reform Commission. In the past 5 years, our team members have published 7 monographs and more than 300 academic papers, in which more than 170 are SCI/SSCI.
