【Mingde Lecture 2022, Issue 34】Professer Ling Xi, a project official of the International Renewable Energy Agency

Lecture title:An academic report

At the invitation of the School of Management and Economics and the School of International Organization Innovation, Ling Xi, the project officer of the International Renewable Energy Agency, was invited to make an academic report on the Internet at 7 p.m. on August 10, 2022 entitled "Sharing and exchange of work experience of international organizations". The report was hosted by Ms. Wang Ying, and more than 50 teachers and students from the School of Management and Economics and the School of International Organization Innovation participated in the report.

Before the meeting, Professor Wang Zhaohua, dean of the School of Management and Economics and the School of International Organization Innovation, exchanged views with the reporter on the discipline advantages, academic background and the construction mission of the School of International Organization Innovation. The two sides expressed their expectations for further exchanges and cooperation in relevant directions in the future.Starting from her own experience, Ling Xi described her academic and career development, introduced the institutional settings and related topics of the United Nations Environment Programme headquarters (UNEP) and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), and shared her work and life experience in Africa and the Middle East during her tenure, so that the majority of teachers and students have a better understanding of the work of international organizations, and put forward suggestions for the participation of young people in international organizations and global governance. At present, there is a small proportion of Chinese youth in international organizations. Director Ling Xi encourages Chinese youth to actively participate in the work of international organizations, participate in global governance and contribute to China's strength.

After the report, the teachers and students at the meeting had an in-depth discussion on the selection criteria of international organizations, job mobility, IRENA-related issues and other issues.

Ling Xi graduated from Tsinghua University with an undergraduate degree and studied at Carnegie Mellon University in the United States. He once worked under the Ministry of Ecology and Environment and engaged in international project management and international exchange, participated in the negotiation and implementation of the Minamata Convention on Mercury in China during the period, and served in Guangxi. In 2018, as the first project officer sent by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment to the headquarters of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), he went to Kenya to work, and now works at the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) in the United Arab Emirates.
