【Mingli Lecture 2022, Issue 38】 Professor Sheng Shibin, University of Alabama at Birmingham, USA was invited to give a report

At 3:00 p.m. on May 17, 2023, Professor Sheng Shibin of the University of Alabama at Birmingham was invited to visit and gave an academic report entitled "Do Well, Say Good: Transforming Green Innovation into FinancialReturn through Tone Management". This report was chaired by Professor Wu Shuishui from the Marketing Department, and many teachers and students from the Marketing Department participated in and listened to the report.

The main content of this report is a research achievement by Professor Sheng Shibin on the impact of green innovation on corporate financial performance. Firstly, Professor Sheng introduced the importance of green innovation in enterprises for financial performance. Subsequently, Professor Sheng elaborated on the mediating role of tone management (media tone vs. manager tone) in the relationship between green innovation and corporate financial performance. Finally, Professor Sheng explored the boundary effect of state-owned shareholding on the relationship between tone management and financial performance. The research results are of great significance for promoting green innovation in enterprises.

After the report, Professor Sheng Shibin had a lively exchange and discussion with the attending teachers and students on the content of the report, data collection and analysis methods, and high-level international journal paper publication.

About the speaker: Dr. Sheng Shibin is currently a professor of marketing at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, USA. Dr. Sheng graduated from Tsinghua University and later obtained a PhD in Marketing from Virginia Tech in the United States. Dr. Sheng's research fields focus on Marketing strategy, strategic management, institutional environment of emerging economies, etc. He has published nearly 50 academic papers in international mainstream journals in marketing and management, including Journal of Marketing, Journal of Operations Management, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Business Ethics, International Journal of Research in Marketing, Industrial Marketing Management, British Journal of Management, Journal of Business Research, and other journals. Dr. Sheng has won the Best Paper Award at international academic conferences multiple times. Dr. Sheng is currently a member of the editorial and review committees of multiple international academic journals.
