According to the Notice on the 2019 Doctoral Candidate Enrollment of Beijing Institute of Technology (Yan Han [2018] No.138), the school implements the "application review-assessment system" in the 2019 doctoral candidate enrollment. Different assessment methods will be adopted based on application category. Candidates are required to prepare for assessment according to the categories they are applying for. In order to scientifically and effectively select talents, standardize the selection system and procedures, and create a good and fair competition environment, the plan for doctoral candidate enrollment is now announced as follows:

I Selection method

In 2019, the School of Management and Economics select doctoral candidates through common enrollment (application review-assessment system) and master-doctor combined programs.

II Categories

Candidates are divided into two categories: non-directional employment and directional employment.

• Non-directional employment: Such candidates must transfer their personnel files and other relationships to the school, and choose jobs according to their own will after graduation.
• Directional employment: Candidates under the special programs for ethnic minorities fall into this category. Such candidates must sign the corresponding agreement on the special programs for ethnic minorities before admission in accordance with the requirements of the Ministry of Education, and work according to the signed agreement after graduation. Other in-service candidates are still employees of their original employers during their studies, and they don't need to transfer their personnel files and other relationships to the school, but their employers must sign the corresponding directional employment agreement with the school before admission, and such candidates shall still work for their original employers after graduation.

III Application time

Online applications must be submitted between January 7, 2019 and February 26, 2019.

Please visit the online application system for doctoral candidates of Beijing Institute of Technology (http://grdms.bit.edu.cn/yjs/jump/bsbm), fill in the application form honestly, and print the 2019 Doctoral Candidate Registration Form of Beijing Institute of Technology after submitting the application and paying online successfully. Please carefully check whether the paper registration form is consistent with the online application. Sign the registration form in person after confirmation.

Selection will be conducted from March 16 to March 17, 2019. There will be further notice on written test location and interview time and location.

IV Assessment method

Candidates under the non-directional employment category will be assessed through "English test + interview about professional courses+comprehensive reexamination";

Candidates under the directional employment category will be assessed through "English test + written test about professional courses+comprehensive reexamination";

Candidates applying for the master-doctor combined programs will be assessed through "English test + comprehensive reexamination".

• Common enrollment (for candidates under the non-directional employment category)

• Candidate requirements

a. Candidates must support the leadership of the Communist Party of China, be politically correct, love the country, be willing to serve the socialist modernization, obey the law and rules and be upright in character;

b. Health conditions must meet the prescribed medical examination standards;

c. Candidates obtaining a master's degree (the credentials verification report from the Service Center for Scholarly Exchange of the Ministry of Education is required in the case of an overseas master's degree); fresh graduates (but shall obtain the master's degree before the start of the doctoral studies);

d. Candidates under the non-directional employment category must transfer their personnel files and organizational relationships to the school after admission.

• Application procedures and submissions

Please apply and submit materials according to the requirements of the Application Guide for the 2019 Doctoral Candidate Common Enrollment (Application Review-Assessment System) of Beijing Institute of Technology (http://grd.bit.edu.cn/tzgg1/136207.htm).

• Foreign language test

All candidates applying for the doctoral degree program (excluding those directly pursuing a doctoral degree as a doctoral student after undergraduate studies and Doctor of Engineering) are required to take the unified English test organized by the school.

• School assessment

• Both Professional Courses I (basic professional knowledge test) and Professional Courses II (comprehensive professional knowledge test) are in the form of panel interview, and the hundred-mark system will be adopted. The report of a candidate shall last at least 15 minutes, and the interview with a candidate shall last at least 30 minutes.

Professional Courses I focuses on the professional background and basic knowledge of candidates; Professional Courses II focuses on the academic level, research potential and the ability to use theories to discover, analyze, and solve problems of candidates.

Attention: There are three methods for the assessment of Professional Courses I and Professional Courses II, and the specific assessment method should be decided by the supervisors. The candidates must contact the corresponding supervisor to confirm the assessment method. Assessment is organized by the school.

Method 1: Discipline-based assessment: Experts will give questions during the interview, and interview experts will ask questions according to the specific test conditions.

Method 2: Candidates select the academic frontier and hot issues related to their discipline, or make an on-site report in the form of PPT based on their research results and research plan for doctoral studies, and interview experts ask questions based on the report of the candidates.

Method 3: The corresponding supervisor selects about 10 articles from the international top and authoritative journals defined by the academic division, and admission officers randomly choose one from them for a candidate. The candidate gives a brief review of the article, and interview experts ask questions based on the review.

• Comprehensive reexamination-interview, hundred-mark system, 20 minutes

There will be a comprehensive examination of candidates' ideology and morality, scientific research style, professional quality, foreign language level, thinking ability, innovation ability, etc. Interview consists of foreign language listening test, oral test, and professional comprehensive ability assessment.

Experts will give scores for each part independently, and the average score will be the final score of each part. A candidate will be considered unqualified and will not be accepted if his/her average score of one part is below 60.

• Medical examination

The school will organize the unified medical examination after the comprehensive reexamination. Refer to the Guiding Opinions on Medical Examination during College and University Admission, which is formulated by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Health and the China Disabled Persons' Federation, and the relevant rules of the school for details of medical examination standards.

• Common enrollment (for candidates under the directional employment category)

• Candidate requirements

a. Candidates must support the leadership of the Communist Party of China, be politically correct, love the country, be willing to serve the socialist modernization, obey the law and rules and be upright in character;

b. Candidates obtaining a master's degree; fresh graduates (but shall obtain the master's degree before the start of the doctoral studies);

• Application procedures and submissions

Please apply and submit materials according to the requirements of the Application Guide for the 2019 Doctoral Candidate Common Enrollment (Application Review-Assessment System) of Beijing Institute of Technology (http://grd.bit.edu.cn/tzgg1/136207.htm).

• Foreign language test

All candidates applying for the doctoral degree program (excluding those directly pursuing a doctoral degree as a doctoral student after undergraduate studies and Doctor of Engineering) are required to take the unified English test organized by the school.

• School assessment (organized by the school)

• Written tests: Profession Courses I and Professional Courses II; length: 3 hours; hundred-mark system
• Comprehensive reexamination: After the written tests, there will be a comprehensive examination of candidates' ideology and morality, scientific research style, disciple background, professional quality, foreign language level, thinking ability, innovation ability, etc. Interview with one candidate lasts at least 20 minutes. Interview consists of foreign language listening test, oral test, and professional comprehensive ability assessment. Experts will give scores independently, and the average score will be the final score of interview. A candidate will not be accepted if his/her final score is below 60.

• Medical examination

The school will organize the unified medical examination after the comprehensive reexamination. Refer to the Guiding Opinions on Medical Examination during College and University Admission, which is formulated by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Health and the China Disabled Persons' Federation, and the relevant rules of the school for details of medical examination standards.

• Master-doctor combined programs

The selection of candidates for the 2019 master-doctor combined programs of the School of Management and Economics was based on the requirements of the Notice of Beijing Institute of Technology on the Selection of Candidates for the 2019 Master-Doctor Combined Programs (http://grd.bit.edu.cn/tzgg1/136208.htm). The school will carry out the selection in March 2019, which is the same as the time of common enrollment. Online application should be completed between January 7, 2019 and February 26, 2019.

Please pay close attention to the website of the School of Management and Economics for the time and location of reexamination.

Master-doctor combined program candidates passing the examination of the school and Beijing Institute of Technology need to take the English test and the comprehensive reexamination.

• Foreign language-unified English test organized by Beijing Institute of Technology.
• Comprehensive reexamination: focusing on candidates' ideology and morality, scientific research style, innovation awareness, comprehensive theory application ability, practical ability, ability to solve practical problems, foreign language listening and oral level, etc. Candidates that have proposed a thesis also need to report on dissertation to the panel.
• Candidates who do not submit online application and materials within the specified time will be deemed to have automatically waived the eligibility for the master-doctor combined programs.

Other matters not covered shall be subject to the relevant documents of Beijing Institute of Technology.

V Admission

• Candidates with scores of foreign language, Professional Courses I and Professional Courses II above the borderline set by the school and the score of comprehensive interview not less than 60 are considered qualified.
• The school will select candidates according to the comprehensive assessment results and admission quotas, PhD supervisors will select candidates based on the specific circumstances of candidates desiring to become their students, and then propose a list of candidates to be admitted and submit it to the admissions working group of Beijing Institute of Technology for discussion and approval;
• The school will announce the list of candidates to be admitted at its website according to the requirements of Beijing Institute of Technology;
• If there is no objection to the list of candidates to be admitted, the listed candidates will be accepted as doctoral candidates after being approved by the Graduate Admissions Leading Group of Beijing Institute of Technology;

Admissions will be carried out in accordance with the relevant work requirements of Beijing Institute of Technology and will be consistent with the overall work of the Graduate School.

• Materials that should be taken to the interview: ①second-generation resident identity card; ②postgraduate education certificate/master's degree certificate; ③fresh graduates need to take student ID card; ④candidates with overseas education background/degree must submit the credentials verification report from the Service Center for Scholarly Exchange of the Ministry of Education . Candidates must ensure that the materials submitted are true and accurate, and candidates who provide false information will be disqualified from examination and admission.
