Dr. Zhang Yuli, Department of Industrial Engineering, Tsinghua University, Visits

On the afternoon of March 31, 2017, Dr. Zhang Yuli, Tsinghua University, was invited to give an academic report entitled "Moment-based Robust Optimization and its Applications" at room 216 of the main building of Beijing Institute of Technology. The report was hosted by teacher Zhang Bin.

Dr. Zhang Yuli started with the news agency model, and described the stochastic optimization model and robust optimization model similarities and differences and improved methods. In the report, he discusses the matrix-based robust optimization (M-RO) model, which only needs to determine the set and moments of the system parameters, and in the case of a given set of moments, the average performance of the bad situation is used to evaluate the feasible solution. Dr. Zhang Yuli recently provided several recent applications of M-RO in the areas of inventory management, machine scheduling and intelligent routing services.

Dr. Zhang Yuli graduated from the Department of Automation, Wuhan University, received his master and doctoral degree from the Department of Automation, Tsinghua University, and urrently postdoctoral fellow at Tsinghua University Department of Industrial Engineering. His research focuses on inventory management, production scheduling and intelligent transportation system operational research and stochastic optimization, and robust optimization models. He has published a number of papers in Production and Operations Management, Transportation Research Part B, European Journal of Operational Research and IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Part A and other top journals.
