Dr. MOU XiaoYi, the University of Dundee, UK, Visits

March 30, 2016, in the afternoon, associate professor Mou XiaoYi, the University of Dundee, was invited to visit our school and gave an academic report entitled "International oil prices and oil and gas investment". Associate Dean Prof. Yan Zhijun met with Dr. Mou. Professor Liao Hua, Wang Ke and other faculty and students participated in the meeting. The report was hosted by Professor Liu Hua.
Dr. Mou is Associate Professor of the Energy Law and Policy Center, the University of Dundee, UK. Research directions include industrial organization and energy economics.
Professor Mou reviewed the long-term trends and short-term fluctuations in world crude oil price since 1861. Taking advantage of the trend graph, he clearly showed the period of short-term fluctuations in world crude oil price is 6 years, long-term fluctuations 30 years. For the fall in world oil prices, he gave reasons and explanations: China's economic slowdown, a substantial increase in US shale gas production, OPEC poor internal coordination, the slow economic recovery in Europe and other effects. Then the report analyzed the rapid development of US shale oil and gas. Comparing the geographic situation, investment environment, and policy impact of the United States and China, he expressed optimism on present China shale gas development. The environmental effects of shale oil and gas development was also discussed.
