EU FP7 Framework POEM Project International Seminar Successfully Held

  September 25, 2012, hosted by the Beijing Institute of Technology Energy and Environmental Policy Research Centre (CEEP-BIT), EU FP7 framework POEM project international seminar was held in Beijing. The theme of the conference is "China Workshop on POEM-Policy options to engage emerging Asian economies in a post-Kyoto regime ". The meeting was chaired by Professor Wei Yiming, Dean of the School of Management and Economics and director of the CEEP-BIT.



 
  Erik Ahlgren, the POEM project coordinator, associate professor at the Swedish Chalmers University of Technology, introduced the project and achievements, Professor PR Shukla of the Indian Institute of Management and Professor BASANTA KUMAR PRADHAN of the India's Economic Growth Institute gave reports, respectively, on India's low-carbon transition policy choices and economic growth and welfare effects of climate policy in India. Associate Professor Liang Qiaomei of Beijing Institute of Technology delivered a report on the impact on China's energy system, as well as economic growth and welfare effects.

  POEM (Policy Options to engage Emerging Asian economies in a post-Kyoto regime) is a project jointly operated by the CEEP-BIT, Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden, the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency, Indian Institute of Management, Germany Kiel Institute for World Economics, and Indian Institute of Economic Growth and funded by EU FP7.
The POEM project focuses on how to enable developing countries to design emission quota allocation and emission reduction programs in a way to ensure that they do not contradict with the country's socio-economic development goals. This is one of the core issues of global climate change negotiations .
